Replacing Fear With Curiosity

Updated: Jul 19, 2018

Have you ever walked into a meeting unprepared? Your time got away from you, and there was not enough prep time between other work commitments, meetings, and personal life obligations – the list could go on and on. The moment of fear sets in – "am I prepared for this meeting?" "What if I don’t have the right answer?" "What if I get called on and look foolish for not preparing enough in advance?" IDEO believes that embracing ambiguity is important, although some may find it stressful. It’s okay to not have all the answers all the time, and they even say that when you are upfront and honest about not knowing the answer, people begin to see your vulnerability.

Improv teaches us to be nimble, flexible and quick on our feet – even if we are not fully prepared. Our workshops prepare business professionals to adapt to their environment through applied improvisational games and in-the-moment debriefing. Our workshops lead participants through a series of games that may seem fun and silly at the time, but really get your brain thinking quickly – we always tell our participants to share the first thing that comes to mind – don’t overthink things, just DO and BE! Of course we laugh at some of the first things that come to our minds, but these activities get us in the mindset that we can be flexible and open when in the moment changes happen. Through active listening and effective communication skills, business professionals will be better able to lead a team to success, hold effective meetings and change course if needed.

Vulnerability at it's finest at the Women of Power retreat!

"By allowing yourself to be vulnerable, you win trust." Improv is all about being open and vulnerable. It can be intimidating to let your walls down and be truly present during one of our workshops, but we promise you the results are worth it!
